IAG Cargo, the cargo division of International Airlines Group (IAG) joins the CargoAi platform. With thousands of flights per week across the globe, IAG Cargo’s addition to CargoAi will broadened offer for forwarders using the platform. CargoAi is an artificial intelligence-enabled airfreight platform that connects freight forwarders and airlines.

IAG Cargo has transported over 10 million COVID vaccines, supporting global efforts in the fight against COVID-19. This includes a 4 million dose shipment to Abuja, Nigeria in collaboration with UNICEF and its COVAX initiative and 300,000 doses to Jamaica, donated by the UK government. 

The Abuja shipment, completed on behalf of UNICEF, departed London Heathrow in July on two British Airways B777-200. The 300,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccines bound for Jamaica also departed in July and were delivered in partnership with Crown Agents on a British Airways B777-200.

IAG Cargo, the cargo division of International Airlines Group (IAG), reported a strong Q2 revenue amid a confident outlook for the cargo business and in-line with an improved air-cargo market.

IAG Cargo achieved revenues of €419 million from April 1 to June 30 2021; an increase of 17.3 percent at constant currency versus the same period last year. Overall yield for the quarter was down 32.1 per cent at constant currency versus last year reflecting the increase in market capacity, while sold tonnes more than offset the decline and were up 56.2 per cent. The Q2 results take IAG Cargo’s half year revenue to €769m, up 25 per cent on the first half of 2020.

Ecommerce continued to be a major driver of activity in the quarter, with the business moving a diverse range of products from fashion and electronics to sporting equipment. The quarter also saw a very significant increase in the movement of Italian wine into the USA – 95,000 bottles.

In Q2 IAG Cargo, together with the passenger business launched additional joint cargo-passenger flights as some governments eased restrictions. Activity from Spain to Latin America increased as a result, with additional frequencies to Sao Paolo and Mexico City and a resumption of services into Guayaquil and San Juan.

During the quarter IAG Cargo operated an extensive charter programme on top of its cargo-only schedule. This included flights operated for charity with British Airways, providing medical equipment and relief into India as the country experienced a rapid rise in COVID-19 cases.

IAG Cargo announces new direct service between Spain and Maldives

Cargo handling division of International Airlines Group (IAG) Cargo announces the launch of a new direct service. From the start of July, the new direct service is from Madrid, Spain to Male, capital of the Maldives.The service will run three times per week from Madrid-Barajas.

The new service will strengthen IAG Cargo’s existing presence in South Asia, which already includes regular services into Bangalore, Mumbai and Delhi in India. IAG Cargo’s extensive global network will allow customers in the Maldives and nearby Sri Lanka seeking to transport essential goods, such as textiles and perishables, access to key markets in Europe, Latin America, United States and elsewhere.

Fernando Terol Armas, director of Spanish Hub and operations at IAG Cargo, said “South Asia is an important market for IAG Cargo, and we are very excited to open this new service for our customers in both regions. This route will not only support Maldivian exporters to get essential and time-sensitive perishable products to global markets, but also support Sri Lankan exporters using Male as a gateway to Europe and beyond”.
